Michael Schmidt, Partner

Michael Schmidt is the founding partner of SSC Management Consult and has held top management consultancy positions since 1993.

Key projects in his 24-year career as a consultant include:

  • Formulation of business segment strategies in private and corporate customer business
  • Overall bank optimisation and restructuring
  • Reorganisation of sales (adaptation of the product portfolio, optimisation of pricing, optimisation of the sales network)
  • Reorganisation of lending business (sales and back office)
  • Implementation of organisational model P (customer-centric and efficient service processes, deposits business and services segment) in the front office (Markt) and front office service departments (Marktservice)

    Michael Schmidt has a degree in economics (Wirtschaftswissenschaften) (lic.rer.pol.) from the University of Fribourg/ Switzerland.

    Dr. Björn C. Manstedten, Partner

    Dr. Björn C. Manstedten is a partner at SSC Management Consult who has worked in various management consultancy positions since 1992.

    During his many years as consultant in Germany and other countries, Dr. Manstedten successfully managed and implemented diverse projects in the financial services sector. Key projects in his career as a consultant include:

    • Formulation of business segment strategies and private customer sales concepts
    • Reorganisation of sales (optimisation of the branch network, adaptation of the product portfolio, optimisation of pricing, design of sales processes and structures) at numerous Sparkasse banks
    • Development and implementation of concepts and measures to significantly increase active sales and marketing time in the savings banks market
    • Development of the S-Group organisational model (Modell Verbund) (optimisation of collaboration between the savings banks and their S-Group partners) in collaboration with the German Savings Bank Association (DSGV), the savings banks and the S-Group partners (LBS, Versicherungen der Sparkassen, DekaBank, S Broker, Deutsche Leasing)
    • Implementation of organisational model P (customer-centric and efficient service processes in the deposits business and services segment) in the front office (Markt) and front office service departments (Marktservice)

    Dr. Björn C. Manstedten holds the academic degree of Diplom-Kaufmann in business administration (Betriebswirtschaftslehre) from Cologne University. He gained a PhD in entrepreneurship from the University of Dortmund (Dr. rer. pol.).

    Ralf Pötter, Partner

    Ralf Pötter is a partner at SSC Management Consult. After completing a commercial apprenticeship at a savings bank he went on to study law, gaining an additional economic qualification and passing the 2nd State Examination in Law.

    Before becoming a consultant he spent more than 5 years as manager of the executive board office at a savings bank in Lower Saxony.

    Key projects in his career as a consultant include:

    • Implementation of customer centric and efficient processes in deposits business and the services segment (organisational model P)
    • Design of the S-Group organisational model (Modell Verbund) in collaboration with the German Savings Bank Association (DSGV), project savings banks, regional associations, S-Group partners and Finanz Informatik
    • Strategic project to assess the impacts of demographic change on private and corporate customers
    • Reorganisation of the lending operations back office
    • Optimisation of central departments at savings banks (including the restructuring of the organisation department)
    • Reduction of centralised and decentralised IT costs (on the basis of FI-Faktura, inter alia)

    Dr. Thomas Paul, Partner

    Dr. Thomas Paul is partner at SSC Corporate Recovery. He has been supporting companies in special situations for more than 20 years and is a lecturer on the subject of recovery and restructuring.

    Key projects in his longstanding career as a consultant include:

    • Company status analysis and qualitative evaluation of alternative restructuring measures (out-of-court settlement versus structured bankruptcy)
    • Support to the management in the implementation of operational and financial emergency measures, some as an interim member of the company’s executive bodies
    • Advisor and coach to companies in special situations
    • Preparation and support in insolvency plan proceedings on a debtor in possession basis (pursuant to sections 270a and b of the German Insolvency Ordinance, InsO)

    Dr. Thomas Paul gained a degree in commercial industrial engineering (Wirtschaftsingenieurwesen) from the Karlsruhe University of Applied Science and then went on to study International Business at the University of Berkley. He gained a PhD from the University of Dortmund while employed there as a research assistant (Dr. rer. pol.). He has been a lecturer on the subject of recovery and restructuring in the Heidelberg University’s Business Department since 2013 and is also academic advisor to the IfUS Institute for Company Restructuring and Development, Heidelberg.

    Stephan Oellers, Processes and Costs — Lending Business

    Stephan Oellers is a senior manager at SSC Management Consult. He has been a management consultant to financial service providers for 12 years, before which he employed with Sal. Oppenheim.

    During his time as consultant, he has managed and successfully implemented both strategy and reorganisation projects:

    • Design of organisational model V (efficient sales support processes) in collaboration with the German Savings Bank Association (DSGV) and eight project savings banks, plus Finanz Informatik
    • Design of organisational model Outsourcing Standards in collaboration with the DSGV and numerous service providers in the German Savings Banks Financial Group
    • Design and implementation of the DSGV sub-project entitled “SparkassenCard PLUS“, which was part of the “Update Kartenstrategie 2” (“Card Strategy Update 2“) project with the DSGV and the German Savings Banks Financial Group’s service providers
    • Association and savings bank network-wide process standardisation and management (including ProzessPlus)
    • Resource deployment benchmarking at savings bank on the basis of PARES and other methods
    • Reorganisation of back office units on the basis of organisational model S
    • Reorganisation of the loan production office (partly on the basis of the organisational model K)
    • Establishment of competence centres for deposits and lending business (within the framework of outsourcing and cooperations)
    • Implementation of organisational model P in close collaboration with savings banks (customer-centric and efficient deposits business and service segment processes)

    Stephan Oellers graduated from the University of Maastricht with a masters degree in economics (Wirtschaftswissenschaften) and a specialisation in international management.
